They are also a good first point for someone starting off in the world of car customizing as rims do not have any performance implications (aside from weight) and therefore it is all about appearance. One of the most popular choices of aftermarket rims is chrome car rims.
The main considering when buying rims, other than appearance, is the size. You must make sure that the rims are suitable for the wheel and tyre size. Chrome rims are available from 15” up to 24” for cars (truck rims come in even larger sizes). There are hundreds of manufacturers of chrome rims, and many times more suppliers. You can usually buy chrome rims from car parts suppliers, and there are now many companies on the internet that offer good deals on chrome rims, often as part of wheel and tyre packages. It is also possible to buy car rims second hand, either from private sellers or second hand parts dealers. Often car customizing clubs will be able to put you in touch with members who have parts for sale.
Chrome rims can dull with oxidation. This can be avoided with regular polishing and then coating with paste wax or other treatment. Finishing with window cleaner can also result in shiny rims, so it can be worth giving them a wipe every time you clean the glass on your vehicle. Most wheel cleaners are safe to use on chrome rims, though some can leave streaking. If your rims are already weathered, there are various chrome cleaners/repairers on the market, or if they are very bad they can be professional polished back or even recoated. The best way to avoid staining and weathering is to clean your wheels regularly.
