Custom Car Tips - Customize Your Car!
It’s what’s one the inside that counts – the custom car interior
While the exterior of your vehicle is the public side of your customizing success, the interior can be just as good a showcase for what is possible with modifying a vehicle. Whether your priority is style or comfort, the custom car interior is a project with much scope for expression and individuality.
Many components go into making a car interior, and all of them can have a custom touch. Most popular is the option of co-ordinating seat covers, floor mats and other accessories. This theme can be based on colour, brand or any other them you like. Classic combinations, such as timber and leather, continue to be popular, though in many cases are given a modern spin, with the timber and/or leather being given a colour finish, or perhaps the addition of chrome trim. Custom interiors are often a good starting point for first time customizers, as the parts required are usually available at a regular auto supplies store.
One of the more specialised, and spectacular, options for customizing your car’s interior is lighting. This can be about much more than the roof light! Coloured lighting for instrument panels is becoming more popular, often to co-ordinate with the rest of the cars colour theme including under car lighting. There is a whole sub-culture of customizing that has taken interior lighting to the extreme, fitting coloured strobes and flexible neon tubing to the car interior, often hooked up to the stereo system to create a complete ‘in car rave’ look. While not to everyone’s taste, it is sure to get you attention if you make the choice!
Less spectacular options include custom shift knobs and brake handles; different steering wheels including racing versions (not legal in all places – check with your local authorities); sports pedals that can be colour co-ordinated with the rest of your interior scheme; and small custom items like seat-belt add-ons. Much of the interior has nothing to do with performance, so this is one aspect of a custom car where you can let your creativity run riot.
