Custom Car Wheels – small change for big impact.
One feature that is common to almost all modified cars is custom car wheels. Available in numerous different styles, custom wheels are commonly available from 13” to 26”. The size you use will depend on the type of car you are customizing, with large luxury cars being able to take 18” to 20” wheels with smaller cars usually using 16” or 17” wheels.
Custom wheels come in a variety of materials – chrome is very popular for more ‘rugged’ vehicles like SUVs and pick-ups; aluminium is more popular for smaller cars. Plus sizing your wheels and tires is an another option for improving both the performance and appearance of your vehicle. This is when you fit a larger diameter wheel with a lower profile tyre. This will result in better response and stability, as well as looking better – wheels are usually more attractive than tyres, so you can have more wheel and less tyre! When plus sizing your wheels, remember to get the correct wheel and tyre ratio to avoid problems with your speedometer and odometer, engine and suspension that can be caused if the rolling diameter is wrong. If in doubt, you should consult a professional to help you choose the correct ratio for your vehicle.
Custom wheels are available from both automotive parts suppliers and many internet outlets. Some internet sites even allow you to see what your new wheels would look like on your model of car. Many parts suppliers or garages will fit your wheels for you if you do not wish to do it yourself.
