One of the easiest changes you can make to your car when customizing your car is changing the wheels and rims. Custom wheels and car rims come in an astonishing range of styles, sizes and materials, and are available at many auto parts suppliers.
A common choice for customizing is plus sizing your wheels. This is fitting a larger diameter wheel, and consequently a lower profile tyre. As well as change the look of your car, there is also the result of better response and stability. If you do plus size your wheels you will have to make sure that you get the correct tyre and wheel ratio, as this can affect various important parts of your car including the speedometer, odometer, engine and suspension. Available in numerous different styles, custom wheels are commonly available from 13” to 26”. The size you use will depend on the type of car you are customizing, with large luxury cars being able to take 18” to 20” wheels with smaller cars usually using 16” or 17” wheels.
Size is also important when buying rims, as they must be suitable for the wheel and tyre size. You can buy new rims for your existing wheels, or often you can buy wheel and rim sets. Since rims do not have an effect on performance, the choice is really based on what you think looks good, and with over 150 manufacturers of rims, you are sure to find that special set that sets your vehicle apart from the res. Rims are available in a multitude of finishes, with chrome being the most popular, but colours and metallics such as silver, black and bronze are available.
